Daydreaming...at night...

Bored. Mindlessly watching television…work 7:30-4 tomorrow. Then I’m not sure.

Thinking about this summer. Want to go camping again, loved Lake Wissota-the hiking, kayaking, just the peace of camping-it relaxes me so much. Although this time around, I would choose different people to go with, or go by myself. Last time I went, the people I went with (myself included) were a little rowdy. One night several people came to visit us and drinking ensued…but things got loud and the night watchman had to come and talk to us.

This time around there wouldn’t be drinking (or at least not the “woo let’s party” type. None for me, since I don’t anymore-but others might want a little wine or something.

Then there was kayaking. I had never been kayaking before. LOVED it! We rented the 2 kayaks they had as well as a canoe (there were 4 of us) and went kayaking. One of the days we were kayaking, we found a little island-we went ashore and hiked some into the middle. We ended up finding this hidden site-obviously used for a party-there were ashes from a campfire, beer cans spread out, food wrappers spread out, and a school flag of some sort hanging up. It looked like an end of year/semester party.

Anyway we kept hiking and came to a clearing on top of a small sandy cliff. There was a picnic table up there and everything. We eventually found our way back to where we left the canoe and kayaks (otherwise it could have been the start of a horror movie-lol)-but decided to go for a little swim. Really fun because the bottom dropped off pretty quickly-so we could do cannonballs right from the shore and not hit the bottom when we jumped in.

I would love to take a little day trip there and just have a picnic with some friends.

Anyway, time to go to bed, long day at work tomorrow.

So great, such a wonderful message!

New Beginnings

It has been awhile since I posted, so I thought it was time.

I had a wonderful Christmas at home with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend.  Unfortunately it was much too short a time, as I worked until 6 pm on Christmas Eve and 9:30 am the day after Christmas-with an hour drive to get to my parents home.

I had made homemade goodies for everyone-and they went over quite well.  The pumpkin pie I made for my brother was the first pie I had ever made and I am quite proud of how it turned out.  It was quite a "sacrifice" for me to make that as well because I detest the taste and smell of pumpkin foods.  But it was worth it since it turned out so well and I know that my brother enjoyed it.

Anyway, on a different note; I got a new sewing machine!  And a very large cutting mat and very long ruler.  I also got a nice light for my sewing area-so I don't have to use a lantern meant for camping.  I got a nice carrying case for my new machine as well.  In my stocking on Christmas morning were some fat quarters in pretty brown and blue patterns.  Another gift I got was the Taste of Home-Winning Recipes cookbook; I can't wait to try some of them out!

Today I did a lot of cleaning and organizing in the kitchen.  After all the baking that was done in the few days before Christmas, there wasn't a lot of time to clean beforehand and both my roommate and I worked right after Christmas as well.  So today was the first day I could really spend time on it.  I also have tomorrow off so I will be cleaning the rest of the apartment as well as doing laundry-then I'm going to pack for going home on Saturday morning for my mom's side family Christmas.  Then on Sunday we are going to visit some cousins who can't make it on Saturday.  On Monday morning I have an eye doctor appointment and then hanging out with mom (she is going to be my chauffeur after my eye appt. because of the drops that dilate my eyes so I can hardly see.  I have a regular doctor checkup in the afternoon, then I'll probably head back to EC since I work at 7:30 Tuesday morning.  So it will be a good few days.

My roommate left Monday morning for home and is gone for 2 weeks.  So next week after I get back and done working, I'm sure I will be bored.  But it will be nice-I'll maybe do some sewing-I have some clothes to mend and I can work on my quilt too!

As of today, it has been a week and a half since I had a soda-and as a result, caffeine.  I don't plan on completely cutting out caffeine-but it might end up that way-we'll see how that goes once I do have some caffeine again and how it affects me and my system.  It has also been about a year and a half since I had any alcohol.  I feel really good too.  I'm drinking more water, I'm sleeping better at night, I am eating better as well-my body isn't craving soda like I thought it would.  It started last Monday-I didn't have any more soda...and I just didn't feel the need for it-like the Lord was guiding me towards healthier choices.  Last Tuesday and a little of Wednesday I had a headache because of the caffeine withdrawal-but by Thursday I was back to normal.

But sort of on the note of sleeping better, it's bedtime for this lady.  Have a wonderful New Year's and weekend.

God bless.

Overflowing heart

Wow, I feel like my heart is just going to burst with how blessed I am!  I have wonderful and loving parents that I am SO thankful for; I got an A on my Communication and Journalism exam-which I was quite worried concerning this exam; the weather is gorgeous-80 today and tomorrow, and 70's for the couple days after that-in October-in Wisconsin; I got an A on my first History paper; it turns out my car is okay; I found some great tank tops-I'm very picky about them in regards to comfort and modesty-my old ones were getting ridiculously worn out because I was searching and searching for some ones that I approved of (thanks Old Navy); these great tank tops were on sale too!; I get to go on a quilting retreat with my mommy at my favorite summer camp; the Lord guided me to a great group of ladies for Bible Study on Wednesdays; I get to go back to Ignite Bible Study on Tuesdays this week....

Gosh....The Lord is TRULY amazing.  I am so beyond blessed in my life.

I love doing laundry!

I was doing laundry tonight, and I just realized how much I like doing laundry.  Well, the only part that you really have to do much with is the folding, but I like all of it.  It's just so calming to me.

Same with cleaning my apartment.  Just the simple act of tidying up calms me.  I hope this is practice for my own family and household one day.  Although that is not up to me, I must have patience in the Lord. Only He knows what is right for my life.

Even though it is Friday night in a college town, I have no desire to go party like the rest of the students, I love just staying home and putting away laundry and cleaning and organizing.  It all makes me very happy.

Excitement building!

I'm super excited for classes to start. I don't think I've been this excited since I was a freshman (WAY back in the day)  I have my supplies somewhat organized, I need to do some cleaning and organizing in my room-to make a more effective study area.

I have my list of books from the university website, so I can go get those sometime as well.

I made a weekly schedule so I have certain times throughout each day devoted to studying.  I've never done that before, and I think that will be a great help in staying on top of the workload.  I'm planning on only working weekends-so I have much more time during the week.  I've never worked only weekends before, I've always had availability during the week, and I think it hurt me, because I felt like I didn't want to do homework during breaks in classes, because then I had to work at night and I would get no "free" time.  So I put my availability for only the weekends-I hope it gets approved.  I will check the computer system at work tonight.

I'm also excited for the fall weather!  I'm definitely ready to be done with this horrid heat and especially the humidity.  I want to wear skirts and tights and scarves and hats.

I have also come to the conclusion that I am the opposite of molasses; I move slower in summertime because of the heat-and I have less motivation to do things, because I don't want to get even more sticky than I am just sitting down.

How wonderful is God?

I forgot to mention this at first when it happened, but it is too amazing not to share.  I have the medication I am taking for my depression, it is working well-I feel much more balanced now.  Anyway, since I wasn't at the university for a long time, I wasn't able to meet with the campus health care doctor that I first went to (she's great).

So I was running QUITE low on medication, when I get a call from her-she had gotten a call from the Target pharmacy where I get my prescriptions-about refilling.

I had been so worried about what I was going to do when it was gone, since my insurance is all wonky because of my educational issues.  But we talked and she called to approve another 6 months of medication.

Here is the AMAZING part of the story; as soon as I got off the phone with her, I felt this very strong lift in my heart, and I knew everything had worked out according to God's plan.  Tears came to my eyes and I just lifted my hands and I praised Him.  I felt a tugging at my heart and I knew it was Him.

It was such an amazing feeling.  Basically the first one I've had-at least of that sort.  I've never had such a strong feeling before.  Everything had been so subtle before that moment.

Whew.  Alright, I really just wanted to share that with you.

New project...

I will be starting a new project of sorts.  I want to share some of my favorite "family" recipes.  Some of them are true family recipes handed down, and others are just ones that we got from a package of food/ingredients.

I am also going to post pictures of my apartment, I really like my cute apartment, but I am looking for new suggestions for interior design and possibly rearrangement.

But for now, homework.  I am to do a plastics inventory for my Biology class-our instructor is an "advocate" of sorts against so much plastic.  Then I have to do an online assessment for 2 chapters-in place of an exam because we won't have time before the class ends.

God bless.
He likes to paw at the stream of water in the sink...he's so silly!

One of my favorite things!

This is the cupcake apron that my lovely friend Amanda gave me for my birthday one year, I love it so much!

I love being a woman!

Just as the title says...I love being a woman!

Right now I am wearing a long denim skirt, a "bubble" hem tank with a cami underneath, and a fluttery black sweater.

I just got done showering and I am passing the time until class at 1:00. So my hair is still damp/wet from my shower, and I wanted to put it all up in a clip so it wouldn't be dripping on my sweater (I don't like using a blow dryer-it fries my hair and ruins the pretty natural waves)
I used one of the bigger clips I could find with the claws; but my hair was far from all being able to fit.

I have such long thick hair-I love it. But that wasn't always the case, when I was younger, before I truly let Christ into my life, I really disliked my long hair. It was too long and thick and I didn't like the texture at all. But I have since come to love it! I got it from my mother, along with no wisdom teeth (so far anyway).

Whew, so getting back on track after straying...I love being able to wear a skirt and have more options than men do in our wardrobe. We can wear all colors, whereas men usually get teased if they wear pink or purple.

We get to wear shiny and sparkly things. We have a subtle strength about us. We have feminine charms and mystery.

We are delicate, yet strong.

We are so blessed! Praise the Lord for being so wonderful!

On homemaking...

How I wish I had truly found Jesus earlier in my life. I doubt I would have wasted so much time. Whether I would have still gone to university, or a 2 year college, or just gotten a job to "get me by". I don't know, but I have wasted so much time and money at school here. But now, I am feeling this strong tugging at my heart that once I find my husband/have kids, I want to be a stay at home wife/mom-if it's possible. Or at least be only part time so I can spend more time at home.

I love Joan/Julia Stiles from Mona Lisa Smile-when she tells Julia Roberts that she won't sacrifice having a family and being there to raise them for a job or career.

Even now, I actually like organizing and cleaning-but by the time I am done with class and work, I really don't have the energy-I'm giving my soul to work and I don't like it.

I'm reading another blog where this topic is talked about and I agree with so many of the statements in it and a lot of the comments that other people make too.

I know being a homemaker isn't for everyone, and I didn't always want this, but now I do and I wish I would have realized it sooner-so I could have just gone to a 2 year school and gone into something like Early Childhood education, so I could support myself if needed.

*sigh* but I know I have to realize that only God knows what is right for me and he already has my plan.

So now it's time for me to go to a meeting and then to play volleyball at 8 with some friends.

So I copied this, but it's too hilarious!

Random Thoughts from People Our Age
My friend posted this on his Facebook a long time ago and I just rediscovered it. I had to share this with you because I still crack up from reading these!! I don't know who the original author is but he's hilarious!

* I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
* More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.
* Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
* Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.
* That's enough, Nickelback.
* I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
* Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?
* Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.
* There is a great need for sarcasm font.
* Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.
* I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.
* How are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
* I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
* I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
* The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.
* Was learning cursive really necessary?
* Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".
* I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
* Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.
* My brother's Municipal League baseball team is named the Stepdads. Seeing as none of the guys on the team are actual stepdads, I inquired about the name. He explained, "Cuz we beat you, and you hate us." Classy, bro.
* Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart.”
* How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?
* I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent an idiot from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!
* Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"
* What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?
* While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.
* MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
* Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
* I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.
* Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
* I would like to officially coin the phrase 'catching the swine flu' to be used as a way to make fun of a friend for hooking up with an overweight woman. Example: "Dave caught the swine flu last night."
* I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
* Bad decisions make good stories.
* Whenever I'm Facebook-stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!
* Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier and sluttier every year?
* If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.
* Why is it that during an icebreaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....
* You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.
* Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.
* There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
* I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.
* "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.
* I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'
* I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dang it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?
* I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
* When I meet a new girl, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me that I have learned from some light internet stalking.
* I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.
* Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...
* As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.
* Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
* It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.
* I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
* Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.
* Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey- but I'd bet everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...
* My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How do I respond to that?
* It really ticks me off when I want to read a story on CNN.com and the link takes me to a video instead of text.
* I wonder if cops ever get ticked off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.
* I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
* The other night I ordered takeout, and when I looked in the bag, saw they had included four sets of plastic silverware. In other words, someone at the restaurant packed my order, took a second to think about it, and then estimated that there must be at least four people eating to require such a large amount of food. Too bad I was eating by myself. There's nothing like being made to feel like a fatty before dinner.

My life can often be hectic. At times it feels like I overload myself with more things than I could possibly ever accomplish. As I’m going to sleep, my mind wanders with all the things I need to get done, and when I’m awake during the day I catch my mind thinking about all the things that need to get done. Take a shower, make coffee, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, write, go see clients, etc. … When I’m not mindful, at the end of the day I can truly ask myself, “Where did the day go?” Enough of these, and I can ask myself the same questions in weeks, months, or even years! Can you relate to this?

So when I feel like these questions are coming up, I do some brief exercises that help bring me to the present moment and remind myself that I’m living.

1. For 5 minutes: Whatever you are doing, just do it slightly slower. At work, we are all given tasks to do. One time per day, for 5 minutes, do that task a little bit slower. Do not do the task in slow motion, or take breaks from the task, simply do it a little bit slower.

2. Take 5 minutes at lunch to notice what you’re eating. You can actually do this at an meal, or any time you eat. You are going to notice what your food looks like, how it smells, feels, and tastes. As you pick up your food, notice the texture of it, is it bumpy, smooth, wet? Notice what you smell. As you take it in your mouth notice how it feels in your mouth, notice the tastes that are coming out of it, how your teeth break it down. As you swallow it, notice it going down your throat. Do the same with the drink.

3. Take 3 minutes to just sit and notice your breath. Sit in a place of your choice, could be behind your desk, or anywhere. Close your eyes. For 3 minutes, simply pay attention to your breath. For these 3 minutes, your breath gets your undivided attention. If you notice yourself thinking about something, even the thought “Why am I doing this stupid exercise?”, just notice that you’re thinking that and then gently bring your attention back to your breath.

4. Wash the dishes. If you’re not used to doing dishes, there will be many benefits to this one. As you begin to wash the dishes, notice the texture of the plate and the warmth of the water on your hands. Inhale and notice if there is any scent. Listen to hear the rush of the water or any other sounds that are happening around you. Not only will you be able to practice being in the moment, but many of your family and friends will be thrilled with you.

5. Take a bath or shower. Preferably a bath if you have one, but even with a shower, you can take your moment in the shower or bath to feel the warmth of the water or feel how your body is immersed in the water. How does your skin feel? Do you notice any smells? Is your hair wet? Just be in the moment and notice all your senses … breathe.

6. Make love slightly slower for a few moments. As you are making love to your significant other, take a moment to purposely move slightly slower. As you do this begin to mentally feel over all parts of your body. How your skin feels when touching his/hers, how are you breathing? Are you sweating? Is there a scent in the air? Take a moment and really be there making love.

7. Smell a flower for an extra breath. This one I love. Often times I will be passing by a flower and if I remember to smell it, I take an extra inhalation to really get the full experience of the scent. You will be surprised how much that extra inhalation makes a difference in the experience.

8. Be silly. I’m serious;). Being silly allows your creative juices to flow and your creative juices is what life is all about. Letting yourself be silly can also be very relaxing and create joyful situations that are full of meaning.

9. Write a letter to someone close to you … telling them how much you appreciate them. This is not a new idea by any stretch, yet it is always worth mentioning since it is so meaningful. A letter that that person will always cherish.

10. Remind yourself that you are a miracle. This may be the most important. How they heck did any of us get here? When we break it down to nanotechnology and quantum physics, scientists are stumped to figure out the great mystery of us physically being here and interacting and creating symbols and concepts and communicating.

It’s boggling. That’s why our moments on this earth are so precious, and it is a wonderful gift to attempt to cultivate those moments in life that you consider to be sacred.

You get the idea … try it out.

Ahh. It's been a good few days. I've really been feeling more at peace than I have in awhile. I got my letter from the university...good news! Step one is complete, now I just have to keep myself on track-and not be afraid to ask for help-because it's ok if I need help-it's ok if I can't do everything by myself.

My birthday is also coming up in just over a week! The scavenger hunt is next Saturday, and I don't work the day before or after my birthday-so it will be a nice relaxing couple of days. And mom might take me shopping, I am getting quite excited-since it's been awhile since I've been shopping. I've even been doing some "online pre-shopping" so I know some stores to look.

I work tonight, which is kind of sad, since I wanted to watch the Oscars. But oh well, I don't work tomorrow, just class from 3-4, and studying for my exam on Wednesday. I'll bring my notebook with to work so I can work on my Punnett squares...haha

So, that's about it for now.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

singing and dancing along with the radio while washing dishes
trying to be a photographer
growing my hair out
the smell of fresh ground coffee

flowers growing through cracks in concrete
flannel sheets in winter
floating down the river during summer
camping
dreaming of my future husband and children
tucking my hair behind my ear
tousling the ends of my hair and feeling the soft waves
enjoying a spontaneous skip and twirl every once and a while
wearing ribbons in my hair
wearing headbands in my hair
having the door opened for me because I'm a lady
being able to write with lots of swirls if I want
my long hair being tossed around on a windy day
pleasantly surprising people when they see me in a long denim skirt
twirling in skirts
knowing my toenails are painted in fun colors under old sneakers

these are just a few for now...

Chicken Stew and rescued dogs

Tonight was very productive; I finished my homework, I made chicken stew from a recipe I found online (and it looks and smells yummy!) And I did a load of laundry so I have clean clothes for work. Now I'm watching Dante's Peak. such a good and cheesy movie. I'm not sure if I should be worried that the the most "moving" part was when they rescued the dog...haha-oh well. I'm a sucker for animal rescue stories-of any kind. That's probably why I'm addicted to the Animal Cops show on Animal Planet.

I think I want to go to the Animal Shelter tomorrow...since I only have an hour of class from 1-2, then I can go there right afterward.

Nothing important right now-but I was just watching Two and a Half Men and they were watching a Viking/Packer game...and Charlie had bet on the Packers; but the Vikings kicked a field goal right at the end of the episode - I just thought it was funny.

Go Vikes!
